A mechanical splice joins two reinforcement bars end to end through a threaded steel sleeve, so load transfers directly through the coupler instead of through the surrounding concrete. Compared with a conventional lap splice this removes the lap length entirely, cutting steel consumption and easing congestion in heavily reinforced sections such as columns, raft foundations, and shear walls.

Kathmandu Steel supplies parallel-thread couplers matched to our TMT reinforcement bars. Bar ends are cut square and thread-rolled rather than cut, which cold-works the thread and keeps the full cross-section of the bar, so the assembled joint develops the strength of the parent bar.
